  1.  What do I need to get my website started?
 
        You will need 3 requirements to begin creating your website:
              1. A registered domain name
              2. A web hosting package
              3. A website design plan. Here the client drafts a layout on paper of their website needed
                  This draft layout is then presented to the web designer for consultation

 
  2.  What is a domain name?
      
        A domain name is a unique name that identifies a specific location on the internet.
        Domain names are composed of at least 2 words separated by a single dot
        Examples : mydomain.com , mydomain.net 
  3.  How do I register a domain name?
       
        Domain name register companies sell the use of domain names with various extensions
        such as .com, .net, .org, .us, .biz, .pro, .gov, .ca etc. 
        The domain name license can be purchased for time periods varying from 1year, 2 years and
        more. The cost of the domain names will also vary from company to company.

  4.  What is web hosting?
        
       Your website is composed of files and folders. These files and folders are stored on a computer
       called a server. The files usually in  HTML format are accessed via the internet by other
       computers (internet surfers,clients) to view the website. Unless you have your own personal
       web server then you will need a web hosting company's service to store your files and folders
       of the website you created on their server. The web hosting service operates 24hours,7 days
       weekly. A hosting service is charged yearly, bi-yearly, quarterly or monthly and the price will 
       vary according to the features of the web hosting plan.

 
  5.  What is a web server?
            
       A web server is software that sends out web pages in response to requests from  web
       browsers. A page request is generated when a visitor clicks a link on a web page in the 
       browser, selects a bookmark in the browser,or enters a URL in the browser’s address text box.
       
       Popular web servers include Microsoft Internet Information Server,Microsoft Personal Web
       Server,Apache HTTP Server, Netscape Enterprise Server, and Sun ONE Web Server.
   6.  What is bandwidth transfer?
         
         The amount of information that can be sent through a connection during a given period of 
         time, measured in bits (bytes) per second. 
         Example: On you website a internet surfer decides to view your photo galley. Bandwidth
                        transfer is being used here. The picture information is being transferred to the
                        client's browser.

 
   7.  Url vs domain name?
        
        URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the unique web address of documents and resources 
        available on the internet, composed of the domain plus information that identifies the page
        within that domain.
   8.  Explain web content?
        
        Content is simply a buzzword for information. All websites contain some kind of content.
        Content can exist in many forms,such as text, audio, video, photos, charts, databases, or
        other information that can be digitized. Content aggregators gather various kinds of content
        and provide it to their customers.
   9.  Define HTML
         
         HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the scripting language used to create documents on
         on the web. HTML is composed of text with codes defining colors, fonts, links, page settings,
         table settings, cell settings ,tags, scripts, executable programs . Basically if a website is a
         book then HTML is the pen (web authoring tool).
  10.  What is a web application?
         
         A web application is a website that contains pages with partly or entirely undetermined
         content. The final content of these pages is determined only when a visitor requests a 
         page from the web server. Because the final content of the page varies from request to
         request based on the visitor’s actions, this kind of page is called a dynamic page.
   11.  Explain what FLASH does?
           
          FLASH is a web oriented vector animation tool created by Macromedia. Like Macromedia
          Director's program ,long a staple interactive multimedia on cd-roms and other computer
          content , FLASH provides exciting animated content. But FLASH can also be used for menus
          and other types of interactive content online. FLASH files are stored on web servers as swf
          files. When your browser opens a page conatining a FLASH animation, your browser will load
          a FLASH player (if already installed) and the FLASH animation will play automatically.
   12.  How does email signups work?
          
          Mailing lists are online discussion groups in which all communication takes place through
          email. When a registered member of the group wants to contribute to the discussion the 
          member sends a single message to the mailing list address. The message is then distributed
          automatically to all registered members of the group.
          The first thing you should know about mailing lists, which are also referred to as email lists,
          is that they come in a variety of formats. Some are open to the public, while others have  
          restrictive membership criteria. Some lists move information in one direction only, while
          others are ineteractive discussion amongst members.
   13.  What are chat rooms?
           
           A virtual area on the internet or other online service that lets users conduct real-time
           text-based conversations.

  
   14.  Explain the purpose of ISPs?
          
          ISP (Internet Service Provider) that allows users for a fee to connect to their servers in
          order to access the internet. ISPs generally provide an internet connection, email address
          account and perhaps free webspace.
   15.  What are newsgroups?
           
           An assembly of articles related to a topic. Users subscribed to a particular newsgroup and 
           receive all posted articles , allowing a continuing active discussion.
   16.  Why do websites have banner ads?
           
           A prominent advertisement found on web pages are called banner ads. Most banner ads
           serve as links to the sponsor's site or to more details about a product or service.
   17.  Define FTP?
          
          FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a standard way to transfer files between the server and client
          computer. Also known as uploading and downloading. This method has  built-in error 
          checking and is frequently used as a way of transferring files over the internet.
   18.  What is streaming media?
           
          Audio and video data that transmits from a server to an end user and displays onscreen as
          it arrives. Users do not download an entire audio or video; instead they use an application
          to see or hear the clip as it transmits.
   19.  I don't know the difference between a gif and a jpeg?
           
          GIF(Graphical Interchange Format) is a data compression format used for transferring
          graphic files over the internet. Files which are predominantly image files, are labelled with a 
          .gif extension after the file name.

          JPEG (Joint Photographics Expert Group) is a compression format in which panaromic
          images can be saved. Using this compression format, files can be altered to take up less 
          storage space. JPEG files extensions are .jpep or .jpg
   20.  Explain the difference between static and dynamic content?
          
           Content is an umbrella term for data, such as text articles and images on a web site.
           Static Content is content that does not change often or at all, while dynamic content
           is content that changes rapidly like every 30 seconds.

 
   21.  What is javascripting?
           
           This is a scripting language created by Netscape to simplify JAVA and make it more
           accessible to web designers and non-java programmers.
